Features / Trend Context

A dip in July isn't news
if it happens every July.

Wiley builds a seasonal profile for your site — industry, region, calendar type — from what it already knows about your pages and audience. That profile doesn't generate its own alerts. It quietly recalibrates everything else, so a normal seasonal swing doesn't get treated like an emergency.

This is why some signals get called possible instead of strong.

Trend Context doesn't produce a Connection of its own. Instead, it adjusts the confidence Wiley assigns to other signals — mainly traffic and rank shifts. A falling trend that matches a known seasonal trough downgrades a rank-drop or traffic-drop Connection to "possible." A shift that's worse than the season would predict gets upgraded, because something real is likely going on underneath the seasonal noise.

The seasonal library starts from domain knowledge — known K-12 calendars, retail peaks, industry patterns — and gets more precise over time as Wiley learns more about your specific site.

What it looks like

Same traffic drop, two different confidence calls — depending on whether Trend Context recognizes the pattern.

Common questions

Do I have to tell Wiley my industry?

No — Wiley infers it from your crawled pages (navigation, CTAs, schema markup) and only asks a follow-up question if something material to seasonal scoring is still unclear, like whether you follow a traditional or year-round calendar.

Does Trend Context show up anywhere in the dashboard on its own?

Yes — a small banner appears at the top of the Connections tab when you're inside a known seasonal window, and metric displays elsewhere in the Deck get a baseline comparison note beneath the raw number.

What tier is this on?

Trend Context is included starting on Wiley Solo, the same tier as the Connection types it adjusts confidence for.
